The day trip contains two main attractions of Northern Ireland as well as three other attractions.
The two main attractions are:

  • Giant’s Causeway - Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site: Picture 1 and Picture 2
  • Carrick-a-rede rope bridge - A very famous and exciting site: Picture
    The tour starts from 9:45am at Belfast International Youth Hostel at here, about 10 minutes walking distance from the conference venue (you need to arrive there 15 mins before departure, so it's 9:30am). This trip takes about 9 hours.

    Airports

    There are two airports in Belfast: Belfast City Airport (Airport Code: BHD) and Belfast International Airport (Airport Code: BFS).

    There are a number of airlines operating from the two airports in Belfast, including: BMI, Easyjet, Jet2, Flybe, Aer Lingus, and Ryanair.

    Dublin Airport: There are very frequent Coach Services directly from Dublin airport to Belfast City Centre. The cost of a return ticket is around 15 pounds. There are frequent train services from Dublin train station to Belfast Central Train station, with the cost of a ticket at around 30 pounds. (Please check coach service/train service websites for up-to-date prices).

    Europa Buscentre Bus Station is at the Belfast City centre and is very close to most of the hotels in the city (most are within walking distances from the station).

    Europa Buscentre Bus Station is about 20 minutes walking distance from the Conference Venue -- the Lanyon Building. There are also buses passing through the University area. Please ask for information at the Ticket office of Europa Buscentre Bus Station.

    The train and public bus services in Northern Ireland are run by Translink. The services cover long journeys in and around Belfast, plus rail travel to and from the Republic of Ireland

    The Crown Bar: The Crown Liquor Saloon in Great Victoria Street, Belfast is one of Victorian gin palaces which once flourished in the industrial cities of Britain. Today wonderfully preserved and owned by the National Trust, the Crown is still well used by the people of Belfast.

    The Giant's Causeway: Giant's Causeway lies at the foot of the basalt cliffs along the sea coast on the edge of the Antrim plateau in Northern Ireland. It is made up of some 40,000 massive black basalt columns sticking out of the sea. The dramatic sight has inspired legends of giants striding over the sea to Scotland. Geological studies of these formations over the last 300 years have greatly contributed to the development of the earth sciences, and show that this striking landscape was caused by volcanic activity during the Tertiary, some 50 to 60 million years ago
